The government of Yobe State is set to empower 2,500 young women and girls with vocational and technology skills under the Technology Talent Services (TTS) project, an initiative designed to expand access to employment, promote digital inclusion and strengthen economic independence.
The initiative was highlighted during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Technology Talent Services (TTS) Nigeria, led by Ambassador Janet Olisa, to the secretary to the state government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje.
A statement signed by Ibrahim Baba Saleh, media coordinator/liaison officer of the SSG, quoted Mrs Olisa as saying that the objective of the visit was to provide an opportunity to assess prospective training centres, review implementation readiness and strengthen collaboration with the state government.
According to him, the programme, implemented through a partnership involving the Yobe State Government, Mastercard Foundation and Tech for Development, seeks to equip young women and girls with relevant vocational and digital competencies to enable them to participate more effectively in the evolving economy.
During the assessment, Yobe State emerged as a leading state among the 12 participating states in preparedness for the implementation of the programme, reflecting the state government’s efforts to establish the necessary structures for effective delivery.
Participants are expected to receive support with job searches and placement opportunities, helping them translate their acquired skills into employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Receiving the delegation, Dr. Goje, reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni to human capital development, youth empowerment and inclusive economic growth.
Dr Goje emphasised the administration’s resolve to support programmes that expand opportunities for young women and girls, promote innovation and enhance their participation in the state’s development.
The Yobe State government plans to establish a Project steering committee, comprising of relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as civil society organisations and representatives of persons with disabilities to ensure effective coordination, inclusivity and government ownership.
The proposed committee will bring together key stakeholders from the ministries responsible for women affairs, humanitarian affairs, wealth creation and information, alongside the Yobe Information Technology Development Agency (YITDA), civil society organisations and organisations representing persons with disabilities.
The training of 2,500 girls represents an important opportunity to expand access to digital technology and vocational education in Yobe State, particularly for young women seeking practical skills to improve their economic prospects. By linking skills acquisition with employment support, the initiative is expected to bridge skills gaps,
The initiative aligns with the Buni administration’s broader human capital development agenda, which recognises skills acquisition, technology and inclusive economic opportunities as essential drivers of sustainable development.
