The vice-chancellor of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Professor Christopher Ogbogbo, has strongly warned vendors operating within the institution to strictly comply with its rules and regulations.
Ogbogbo made the call while declaring open a two-day ADUN Right Vendor Capacity-Building Workshop at the university in Ibusa, Delta State.
He urged the vendors to maintain clean and safe environments, stressing that the university was not a marketplace.
“I want a neat and clean environment in the university,” he said.
The VC advised vendors to dispose of waste properly and familiarise themselves with designated disposal points and schedules. He also declared that the university management would not tolerate a dirty environment and admonished vendors to cooperate with ADUN Consultancy and Innovation Limited to ensure smooth operations.
Prof. Ogbogbo emphasised the importance of good customer relations and responsible business practices, while cautioning vendors against arbitrary price increases. He also directed shop owners and attendants to always dress neatly.
The VC also stressed the need for kitchen workers to cover their hair while preparing food. He also advised vendors to prioritise hygiene and cleanliness, while avoiding actions capable of causing disputes within the university community.
Resource persons, including Professors Hassan Oaikhenan, Paise Agba and Ayoola Akinwole, alongside CSO Commander Shaka Jibrin Ogohi, Dr Mbong and Miss Ene Ejembi, addressed participants. They noted that universities demand the highest standards of professionalism and service delivery, and encouraged vendors to provide quality services and avoid poor communication that could trigger misunderstandings and conflicts.
They added that failure to comply with regulations and maintain clean business premises could create unnecessary disputes.
According to them, vendors should embrace a win-win approach that benefits university management, staff, students and business operators. They also encouraged vendors to remain optimistic, respect customers and understand that violations of university rules would not be tolerated.
Earlier, the director of ADUN Consultancy and Innovation Limited, Dr. Chioma Ehis Erikha, said the workshop was designed to strengthen vendors’ business skills. She explained that the programme would promote professionalism, improve service delivery and encourage environmental safety.
Dr. Erikha disclosed that the institution was partnering with the Nigeria Navy Microfinance Bank’s Relationship Centre to introduce a special financial package for ADUN Right vendors. According to her, the initiative would provide opportunities for better financial management and business growth.
She commended the vice-chancellor and the university management for their consistent support. Dr. Erikha also appreciated the resource persons for sharing their expertise, the partners for their collaboration and the vendors for participating in the workshop.
