The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation is to partner National Sugar Development Council to enhance sugar production in the country.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, announced this recently in Abuja when the Executive Secretary, National Sugar Development Council, Mr Kamar Bakrin, led members of the council on a courtesy call on him in his office.
Utsev said such partnership would be in the area of provision of sustainable water to sugarcane farms and factories in the country to ensure steady production of the commodity.
He informed the team that plans were on to desilt major rivers ,dams and reservoirs in the country to enable unhindered water supply to sugarcane farms and tackle perennial flooding as well as enhance the blue economy.
The Minister expressed optimism that when the sector is developed, more jobs will be created for the teaming youths of the country and will also boost the nation’s economy.
While acknowledging the contributions of the National Sugar Development Council for economic growth and investment opportunities it has created, he thanked them for believing in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is working day and night to make Nigeria more prosperous. Utsev also assured the team of a more robust partnership to achieve its set target.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of National Sugar Development Council, Mr Bakrin, explained that the visit was to seek partnership with the ministry in the provision of sustainable water supply to its existing farms and factories to increase sugar production in the country and bridge the present gap in sugar production.
