The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the immediate past vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, at the Kaduna State High Court for alleged laundering of N1 billion.
According to a statement from the commission, the former VC was arraigned alongside the university’s former bursar, Ibrahim Shehu Usman.
The statement further noted that the appeared in court before Justice A. A. Bello on an eight count charge bordering on theft and money laundering to the tune of over N1 billion.
The arraignment was facilitated by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC.
A statement by EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, posted on the commission’s website said “the arraignment followed months of discreet investigation triggered by a petition accusing the duo of diverting funds meant for the renovation of the popular Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria.”
It further read that “the investigation established that over N1 billion was allegedly stolen from different accounts of the institution by the defendants and diverted into their private accounts.”
