The Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has made an announcement, calling for applications from women to participate in what it called “Women in Green Energy Ventures Accelerator Programme,” which it has launched.
In 2020, AWIEF launched a new initiative called “Enterprise Development for Women-Owned Ventures in Green Energy” in partnership with the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF). The programme is being implemented in Malawi and Nigeria.
“AWIEF is pleased to announce the call for applications for an accelerator programme targeting 10 women-owned and/or women-led enterprises involved in renewable and green energy production or service,” the women group said in a document sent to The Africanscholar on February 15.
The group further explained that entrepreneurs will receive tailored support and training for scaling up their businesses, one-on-one expert mentoring and coaching, tangible opportunity to raise capital, as well as access to networks, partners and investors for growth.
Those eligible to apply for the programme are women owners or leaders of scalable renewable and green energy businesses.
It is expected that such businesses must be registered and operating in either Malawi or Nigeria, and be post-revenue, while operating for not less than two years.
Other conditions demand that the business owners should be looking for opportunities to raise growth capital, and be dynamic and ready to take their businesses to the next level.
The Women in Green Energy Ventures Accelerator will take place over a period of eight weeks, beginning from March 15 to May 7, 2021, while the applications close on March 1, 2021.
