The minister of water resources and sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has emphasized the significance of routine eye examinations due to the fundamental role that eyesight plays in human life and the capacity to make significant contributions to one’s immediate community and the nation.

Prof. Utsev conveyed this message during the free eye testing and treatment for the ministry’s staff by the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, at the welfare building of the ministry in Abuja recently.

He was accompanied to the free eye check exercise by the minister of state, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq.; and the permanent secretary, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, alongside some management staff of the ministry.

The minister stated that “the eye is very fundamental in the human body. If you are blind, your contribution to life, your contribution to the country, your contribution to your immediate community will be impaired.”

He also highlighted that taking care of the eyes not only benefits individual’s health but also contributes to the economic well-being of the entire family.

The minister urged people to seek immediate medical attention when facing eye challenges and emphasized the importance of not waiting for the eyes to worsen before seeking help.

Additionally, he encouraged individuals, especially those aged 40 and above, to schedule regular eye check-ups.

While commending the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation Eye Hospital for their generous initiative, the Utsev pledged to collaborate with the foundation on the ministry’s WASH program, and other health-related matters.

In a similar vein, Mr. Shravan Kumar Kasam, the chief executive officer of Tulsi Chanrai Foundation Eye Hospital, expressed gratitude to the ministry’s management and underscored the significance of the Foundation’s track record in providing free cataract surgeries.

He also emphasized the importance of delivering services directly to people’s locations and highlighted that people often neglect their eye health until a significant issue arises, which is why their foundation organizes “Connecting a Camp” events, especially with ministries and other busy workplaces, to promote regular eye check-ups.

The CEO also mentioned the Foundation’s active engagement in water and primary healthcare programs, with the goal of contributing to the nation’s overall well-being.

He urged individuals to promptly seek medical attention at the hospital if further investigation or treatment is required.
