The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN) has resumed duty Monday, Oct. 17.
Egbewole, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday, which said assumption procession of the university community for the 11th Vice Chancellor would commence by 8:45a.m. from the main gate of the institution.
In a report gathered by The Africanscholar, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Malam Abidu Yazid announced the appointment of Prof. Egbewole, on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022. “I am glad to inform you that the Council has, after rigorous selection procedure, approved the appointment of Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin”, Yazid said.
He said the emergence of Egbewole followed a selection process that included 13 shortlisted candidates out of 29 applicants for the post of the vice-chancellor.
Yazid said that the shortlisted candidates had their applications processed for over a period of four days before the council decided to settle for Egbewole. “When the applications were received, the Council constituted a Selection Board to assess and shortlist suitable candidates. “In the end, we shortlisted 13 candidates, who fulfilled our advertisement and other conditions. “We interacted with them and processed their applications for over a period of four days.
“We checked and double-checked their credentials. We closely questioned and probed each of them to make sure that they would support and fulfill the vision and mission of the university. Adding “We specifically looked for candidates who would support and be sympathetic to the needs of our students.
Egbewole, a Professor of International Law and Jurisprudence and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was born on December, 26 1961 in Osun State. He bagged his Bachelor and Masters degrees in law (LL. B and LL.M degrees) from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He attended the Nigerian Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1985.
From 1985 to 1995, Prof. Egbewole accumulated legal practice experience from government and private firms, and in 1995, he started his own law firm, Wahab Egbewole and Co. As an active legal practitioner, Prof Egbewole has continued to practice law and has contributed immensely to the development of Nigerian jurisprudence in several areas, particularly in election petitions, criminal practices, general civil practices, among others. He had also served as a member of the National Executive Committee for the Nigerian Bar Association. He reached the pinnacle of legal profession in 2018 when, having distinguished himself, he was conferred with the coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
