Four Saudi universities have been ranked among the top 100 world universities to register patents in 2021.
This is against the three universities from the kingdom that made it to this list in 2020, according to the annual report issued by the National Academy of Inventors in cooperation with the Intellectual Property Owners Association.
King Abdulaziz University achieved 4th place globally with 187 patents in one year, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals was ranked 25th globally with 91 patents, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University 58th with 45 patents, and King Saud University ranked 68th with 40 patents.
The results underscore the excellence of the Saudi university education system in recent years.
One of the goals of the Saudi ministry of education is to develop research and innovation. It is also focused on preparation for strategic plans in terms of regulations, legislative and legal procedures, financial and funding policy regulations.
Another area being addressed is identify challenges, together with the present qualitative initiatives that support and strengthen the research and innovation system in the Saudi tertiary educational system.
