The governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has handed over cheques to three technical colleges in different parts of the state with the aim of upgrading and better positioning them to produce skilled personnel that can work to help themselves and further grow the economy of the state.
Fayemi disclosed this Wednesday in a post on his personal Facebook page.
In the post, the governor said that, “as part of my engagements today, I flagged off the distribution of cheques to three of our Technical Colleges under the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project in Ekiti State.
“IDEAS is a World Bank assisted project that is designed to fill skill gaps in both public and private sectors. Ekiti State is one of the six benefitting states. The facilities at the Government Technical Colleges at Igbara Odo, Ijero and Otun will be upgraded and modernised. In addition, all the teachers and instructors will be adequately trained.
“Our administration started the revamping of the Technical Colleges with the total reconstruction and equipping of the Government Technical College, Ado-Ekiti. We also recruited 70 teaching staff and 55 non-teaching staff to improve productivity.
“All these yielded positive outcomes with our state experiencing over 300% increase in students’ enrolment into our technical colleges; from 700 in 2018 to 2505 in 2022. This was made possible through constant sensitization and motivational programmes of the government.”
