The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, (NSUK), has made it for the 19th time, bringing into its fold the most cosmopolitan admission within the region, with students admitted coming from many states of the country and beyond.
The 2020/2021 academic year had a total of 6,323 students admitted and spread across the eight faculties of the university.
Topping the list were the faculties of Natural and Applied Science and that of Social Sciences with 1,825 and 1,273 respectively.
“The trail brazing institution adjudged as one of the most peaceful in the country is founded on strict regulations, due procedures, rule of law, and will not waver a bit in maintaining the remarkable standard,” said the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed.
The vice chancellor said that the university functions in tandem with global best practices in education to produce students from any part of the country and beyond who are found worthy in learning and character, adding further that “such is the expectation from every student to excel not only in learning but in character.”
While congratulating the matriculants, Prof. Mohammed charged the students to abide strictly by the rules, regulations and norms guiding their stay on campus.
He reiterated that “the university regulations relate to your conduct in the hostel, classrooms and the general university environment, with orders on the dos and don’ts and corresponding deviants. These regulations are clearly captured in the university handbook, faculty handbook and departmental handbook. Students are to desist from all vices, especially indiscipline, cultism, and indecent dressing.”
The Africanscholar sought opinions of newly admitted students and those who responded to questions said they they were elated to be part of the university that they have long cherished due its excellent records and sound public perception in the Nigerian educational sector.
“I am from Kogi State, and did not know anybody here. I didn’t have anyone to pursue it for me. I applied because I have heard so much about NSUK. It is a university of my dream. And, finally, I am happy to be here. The facilities are inspiring. I am optimistic that here, i will realize my dreams of becoming a world class economist,” said one of the newly admitted students in the department of economics, who did want to be publicly named.
