The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Wednesday received a shipment of Covid-19 test kits and other medical supplies procured by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Valued at $14 million, the medical supplies delivered in Abuja include 549,600 test kits containing sample collection items and reagents.
In addition, some 550,000 Qiagen extraction kits have been procured to increase testing capacity and early detection.
As the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to unfold in the countries, the need for essential medical supplies to strengthen national capacities to cope with increasing cases has become increasingly urgent.
The aim of the global body is to support the continued fight against the pandemic in the ECOWAS region as it is also doing in other parts of the world in many ways.
